Japanese automaker Suzuki has long been famous for building cute, fun and enjoyable drivers cars. With as much as 30% of South Africa’s new cars sales comprising of the Suzuki Swift, we decided to discover why this compact budget friendly hatchback is racking up so many awards.

Refreshed Focus

The Swift has always held several key characteristics dear to its design and philosophy.

• A Fun Drive
• Sporting Looks
• Spacious Interior

And of course a value for money offering. With the latest-generation Suzuki Swift, I am glad to report that Suzuki has kept the fundamental Swift elements alive while adding a further element of quality and grown-up appeal without losing any of its fun nature.

The Drive

Keeping things simple, the new Swift is available with only one engine variant. A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine as used previously and an engine which develops 61 kW and 113 Nm of torque.

Owing to a lightweight body, power comes on incredibly well, with the swift feeling nippy off the mark and managing to maintain a very impressive claimed 4.9-litres/100 km fuel economy (a figure which I was never far from during my time).

The 5-speed manual transmission makes for what is a sporty and engaging drive, it also retains the fun factor which previous generation Swift drivers would have come used to.

Space, Safety & Style

Having always managed to package big interior space into a small package, the new Swift, much like its predecessor does a great job of looking small and dainty on the outside while feeling spacious and roomy on the inside. A high roofline makes for impressive headroom, while a minimalistic clean and classy styled cabin makes for what is a comfortable cabin.

I spent time with the range-topping Swift GL model, the one which I really recommend, as it offers ABS with EBD, front fog lamps, dual front airbags, remote central locking and Isofix child seat mounting points at the rear as some of its key features. Though there is no fancy large colour media system, you’ll find that the simplistic radio with Bluetooth and MP3 ability is refreshingly easy to operate and actually a joy to use.

The Swift features a compact yet decent luggage loading area with the boot measuring in at 268-litres with the seats folded in their upright position.

Conclusion, Competitors & SA Price

The Swift competes against the likes of the Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo Vivo and Toyota Etios.

With modern looks and a weight saving of around 100 kg, the latest-generation Suzuki Swift manages to retain its fun way of life nature. An impressive array of safety features, an improvement in overall quality and fine Japanese minimalistic looks will certainly help ensure that the Swift remains one of the finest budget compact cars on the road.

Although it doesn’t wear a popular badge like the Ford Fiesta or Volkswagen Polo, the Suzuki Swift is a brilliant choice and one of the cheapest cars in this class. Only a 1.2-litre petrol engine is available, but it offers enough power for city driving as well as impressive fuel economy. A more efficient diesel engine, will be available in the spring of 2011. Front and rear passengers have plenty of space, but the boot is only really big enough for the weekly shopping.

Do you own this car? Let us know what you think about it with the Driver Power Survey http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/front_website/driverpower/2011

The Suzuki Ignis is a small SUV that’s well priced and neatly packaged. With its flared arches, bluff nose, and jacked-up stance, there’s no mistaking it for anything other than a radically designed and eye-catching baby SUV. But, should you buy one?

We get to grips with the all-new Suzuki Vitara, an important newcomer in the growing compact crossover segment. With a wealth of heritage under its belt, expectations are high. Can the new Suzuki Vitara live up to the hype?

Previous generations of the Suzuki Vitara were known for their outstanding reliability and offroad capability. But… back then the Vitara had a segment entirely to itself. The new Vitara, however, comes up against some stiff competition in the ever growing compact crossover market. The dominating presence of the Ford Ecosport, Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and Kia Soul is bound to make life tough for the newcomer. Nonetheless, the latest Vitara is well packaged and attractive which should see it putting up a strong fight in the local market, particularly when Suzuki’s reputation for superb after-sales service is factored in.

We recently spent time reviewing the latest Suzuki Vitara 1.6 GL+, which is priced at R269 900, and comes fitted with a host of standard features making it a high-value offering. Some notable items include climate control, cruise control, mounted steering wheel controls and USB/Aux inputs. Both front-and all-wheel drive derivatives are on offer to suit varying driving conditions and buyers will appreciate the excellent ride quality offered by this latest model. The Vitara is also quite practical and with 375-litres of boot space along with a removable floor, there’s ample room for ordinary, and not so ordinary items. Fuel efficiency is good too, with Suzuki claiming 5.8l/100km. Possibly the best thing about this latest Vitara is the reassuring feeling of solidity it gives you, the sense that you could happily drive it year after year and eventually pass it on to your kids, and that’s quite refreshing.

Suzuki is on a roll. New offerings such as the Ignis, Baleno and Vitara are giving the humble Japanese brand more exposure than it has had in years.

But the all-new Suzuki Swift you see here is the big one, because it’s the company’s most popular vehicle and the one it’s best known for.

More than 130,000 of them have been sold in Australia since 2005. The only rival that lures more private buyers here is the Mazda 2.

The key for Suzuki when developing the replacement for its outgoing seven-year old Swift was to keep those attributes that made it great – the light weight, nimble dynamics and old world charm – but blend in additional modern features.

Has it succeeded?

When it comes to getting into a budget car, you want to know that you’re getting the absolute most for your money. We’ve found two great offerings that offer quite good value for money if you’re shopping in the R200k range. Ford’s new Figo has a new 3-cylinder engine while the Suzuki Swift carries over its tried and tested 1.2-litre petrol.

In this video, Ciro goes through all the nitty-gritty bits that budget car buyers fret over. Which one is best? Check out the video and find out.

This is the Suzuki Celerio. It’s a tiny car, but with one huge selling point – it’s one of the cheapest new cars available for sale in the UK. Prices start from just under £7500, but does the price come at the expense of quality? Is it worth putting on your shopping list, or would you be better off spending a little extra on a Hyundai i10 or Volkswagen Up? Find out in my full, in-depth review.

The Suzuki Ignis is one of the quirkiest-looking small cars on the road. The tiny dimensions make it perfect for city driving, but the tall-chunky looks give it the appearance of a plucky mini-SUV. Good value and good to drive too, if there’s one criticism you could have levelled at the previous Suzuki S-Cross, it’s that it wasn’t exactly what you’d called memorable to look at. Not so with this newly-facelifted version.

Along with the tough new styling and big chrome grille, the S-Cross now gets the option of new engines, new trims and new equipment too.

Is the hidden gem in the crossover-SUV market now a better bargain than it’s ever been?

In this review, we take an in-depth look at the interior of the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross including its boot size, dashboard and back seats. We then run through performance, price and finish up with the all-important verdict – is the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross a good car?

The Suzuki Ignis is back from the dead after a decade-long absence, the latest in the brand’s growing line of reborn ’90s nameplates including the Vitara and Baleno. Moreover, it’s affixed to one of the most intrinsically likeable cars you can buy.

Like the old version – which in retrospect was ahead of its time and was more or less the same size – the 2017 Ignis is a tiny urban runabout with the stance and space of a small crossover. Indeed, Suzuki wants you to consider it the market’s first true ‘light SUV’.

Sudah 8 tahun Suzuki tidak menjual sedan di Indonesia, akhirnya sekarang mereka kembali dengan Ciaz.

The Suzuki Vitara is a rugged SUV that’s not only cheap to run by practical and spacious enough for the average family. It might not be the most outrageous-looking family car, nor does the cabin boast class-leading build quality, but it’s fun to drive and surprisingly good off-road. Mat jumps behind the wheel to give you his verdict.
