The third generation smart has been given a facelift. This is the smart fortwo EQ cabrio. EQ replaces the Electric Drive to fit in with Daimler’s electric car naming scheme. The smart is now an electric car only.

Most likely this is the last smart in this form. Daimler and Geely signed a deal, which foresees moving production to China, and developing a B-segment replacement. But that’s something for another episode. And now let’s see, what’s new in the current generation.

The smart as a city car is a great concept. We usually transport empty space around, so one extra seat is enough in most cases. The original smart was only 2.5 metres long, which allowed it to park perpendicular to the curb between larger cars, which parked parallel to the curb.

Sharpened appearance

It’s not only the products that are getting a model refresh. The brand appearance has also been completely revised and realigned. The corporate identity is based on the new brand positioning, which heralds the transformation into an all-electric brand. Because just as the smart makes life in the city easier, so the new design becomes consistently simple, clear and minimalist yet emotionally appealing nonetheless. This is reflected in the new online presence and in all of the brand’s communication activities.

Smart Fortwo 2018 Car Review

The Smart Fortwo (stylized as “smart fortwo”) is really a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 2-seater hatchback city car manufactured and marketed through the Smart division of Daimler AG, introduced in 1998, now in their third generation. Marketed in 46 countries worldwide, Fortwo production had surpassed 1.7 million by early 2015. The brand name Smart derives by reviewing the early history as being a cooperative venture between Swatch and Mercedes: Swatch Mercedes ART. The Fortwo nameplate derives by reviewing the two-person seating capacity. Until 2004, the Fortwo ended up being marketed because the smart City-Coupé.

“The new Smart ForFour is cheap to run and offers a huge range of customisable options. Its small size and great manoeuvrability make it ideal for the city, but it feels stretched on the motorway.”

Video review Smart City pros and cons, test drive – smallest, cheapest car

Mercedes Smart City – despite its numerous design flaws, Mercedes Smart City Fortwo has many fans of this small car.

The extremely miniature dimensions, the high level of passive safety combined with low cost contribute to the emergence of numerous supporters of Smart Smart among urban residents.

Smart City’s interior is pretty and quite cozy, but smart ergonomics is not different.

The length of the Smart City Fortwo is 2500 mm., It is simple and convenient only for two people who do not differ in large dimensions. On the road the car behaves badly – because of the high center of gravity, short base and high coefficient of aerodynamic resistance.

Body Mercedes Smart City – corrosion of the body of the baby is not exposed – almost all external panels are made of plastic.

The chassis of Mercedes Smart City is generally reliable. In winter, brake sensors often freeze and there is a malfunction in the ABS.

Transmission – Smart is completed with an automated manual gearbox with 6 steps. Its main problem is the freezing and / or clogging of shifting contacts.

Engine – a weak 0.6-liter engine with 3 cylinders and turbocharging unpretentious and economical.

+ Maneuverability, original exterior, low fuel consumption.
– Tight interior, poor driving performance.

The new Smart ForTwo Coupe is back with a mini-sized bang. Expect a car that’s easy to drive, cute to look at and cheap to run. With prices starting out from just under ten grand, that’s all hard to argue with. But here’s the best bit…

One of the biggest car fads to come to America about 10 years ago, the latest Smart Fortwo forges its combustion engine for pure electric only propulsion. Its short 58 mile range will still limit its appeal to city dwellers but its surprising amount of interior room and comical ability to turn on a dime will surely keep its drivers entertained.
