Edmunds Senior Writer Mark Takahashi somehow landed a trip to Hawaii to drive the latest entrant in the subcompact crossover SUV class: the 2018 Hyundai Kona. He’s not a big fan of the exterior styling but considers the Kona one of the best-driving vehicles in the class. Add in plentiful features, an accessible price and Hyundai’s industry-leading warranty coverage, and the Kona becomes a strong value contender.
Q: How much does the 2018 Hyundai Kona cost?
A: The base SE trim starts at $20,450, including destination fees. The fully loaded Ultimate trim will set you back almost $30,000.
Q: What engines are available in the 2018 Hyundai Kona?
A: The base engine is a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The top two trims receive a 175-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter, which is our pick for the Kona.
Q: Which trim should I get?
A: The 2018 Hyundai Kona’s Limited trim costs about $25,000 and gets the better 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. It also offers a good mix of features for the price.
Q: What does the 2018 Hyundai Kona compete against?
A: The main competitors in the class are the Honda HR-V, the Mazda CX-3 and the Toyota C-HR.

Luxury lounge: the interior
Freedom is the defining design feature with a new luxury slant. This explains the A8’s resemblance to a lavish, spacious lounge. Compared to the predecessor model, it has grown substantially in length in both body versions.
The range of equipment and materials is extensive, with every detail radiating superlative bespoke quality – from the perforation in the seat upholstery to the electrically opened and closed shutters on the air vents.
The classiest seat in the new Audi flagship model is in the rear right – the optional relaxation seat in the A8 L that comes with four different adjustment options and a footrest. In this seat, the passenger can warm and massage the soles of their feet on a unit with multiple settings incorporated into the back of the front-passenger seat. The new comfort head restraints complete the experience. The rear passengers can also control an array of functions such as ambient lighting, the new HD Matrix reading lights and seat massage, plus make private phone calls, via a separate operating unit. The rear seat remote, with its OLED display as large as a smartphone, is a removable unit housed in the center armrest.
Fingertip response: the controls
The luxury sedan’s interior deliberately adopts a reductive design; the interior architecture is clear and with a strictly horizontal orientation. Audi carries its high quality standards into the digital age with a radically new operating concept. It does away with the familiar rotary pushbutton and touchpad of the predecessor model. The instrument panel is kept largely clear of buttons and switches. At its center is a 10.1-inch touchscreen display which, when off, blends almost invisibly into the high-gloss black surround thanks to its black-panel look.
The user interface appears as soon as the car is opened. The driver controls the Infotainment system with fingertip control on the large display. They can use a second touchscreen display on the center tunnel console to access the air conditioning and comfort functions as well as make text inputs. When the driver activates a function in the upper or lower display, they hear and feel a click by way of confirmation. The glass-look operating buttons respond in the same way. The combination of acoustic and tactile feedback along with the use of common touch gestures such as swiping make the new MMI touch response especially safe, intuitive and quick to use.
The A8 can also engage in intelligent conversation. The driver can activate an array of functions in the automobile using a new, natural form of voice control. Information on destinations and media is either available on board or is delivered from the cloud at LTE speed. The extensive Audi connect range also includes traffic sign recognition and hazard information – innovative car-to-X services that draw on the swarm intelligence of the Audi fleet.
The extensively optimized navigation is another new feature: It is self-learning, based on the route just driven. This provides the driver with intelligent search suggestions. The map also incorporates highly detailed 3D models of major European cities.

The W12 will follow in 2018 in the new A8 L as the supreme, highly refined top engine version. With its two twin scroll turbochargers, it develops 430 kW (585 hp) from a displacement of 5,950 cm3. Its 800 Nm (590.0 lb-ft) of torque is available constantly between 1,300 and 5,000 rpm. Like the 4.0 TFSI, the twelve-cylinder engine features COD (cylinder on demand) technology. At low loads and engine speeds, it shuts down the left-hand cylinder bank to trim fuel consumption.
The new Audi A8 and A8 L are being built at the Neckarsulm site and will appear on the German market in late fall 2017. The starting price for the A8 is EUR 90,600, with the A8 L starting at EUR 94,100.

Cadillac Unveils Escala Concept, Previewing Future Design Direction
Concept showcases future design and technical systems in development
Flagship Sedan is a concept for a more expressive, expansive companion to the recently launched CT6
Dual-Theme interior includes Curved OLED displays, next-gen connectivity designs, ingenious details
The Escala Concept previews the design and technical ideas driving the next phase of Cadillac’s ongoing expansion.
“Escala is a concept with two clear objectives,” said Johan de Nysschen, president of Global Cadillac. “First, Escala is a statement of intent for the next iteration of the Cadillac design language, and also technical concepts in development for future Cadillac models. Secondly, Escala builds Cadillac’s aspirational character, signaling the brand’s return to the pinnacle of premium.”
Cadillac has released a new slate of models bristling with expressive design and exhilarating performance, driver’s cars taking Cadillac into a new chapter of its storied 114-year history.
“Escala is a concept car, but one based upon the unrelenting rise of our product substance,” de Nysschen said. “Depending on the development of market segment for large luxury sedans, Escala is a potential addition to our existing product plan.”
Escala features a new and evolved face of Cadillac design that will begin appearing on production models soon. This includes a new expression of Cadillac’s vertical lighting, a brand signature since 1948. Organic light emitting diode (OLED) lighting elements are thinner and set deep within the fascia, creating a sinister look, day and night.
The concept’s details invite closer inspection, including a three-dimensional precision pattern in the grille design and 22-inch wheels with two layers of spokes.
“This concept shares how Cadillac will bring forward a new experience that is uniquely American, and unmistakably Cadillac,” says Andrew Smith, executive director of Cadillac Global Design. “Escala is an expressive symbol of reward and an exhilarating driving experience. On the interior, we pushed further. It’s about precision and ingenuity in craftsmanship, and the artistic integration of technology.”
Escala features a “dual personality” interior crafted with distinctly different zones: The front is about intensely focused modern technology, while the rear delivers relaxation.
“My brief to the designers was to create a car you desperately want to drive, and also one in which you want to be driven,” Smith said. “So rather than a single design, this interior consists of two themes. It was an opportunity for our designers to break the rules a little bit, exactly what Cadillac should do from time to time.”
An array of three curved OLED screens is a prominent feature in the front of the cabin. The very thin, curved displays are layered in front of the driver, with the back sides wrapped in hand-stitched leather embossed with the Cadillac script. The array of screens consolidate the traditional “cluster” of driving gauges with the “center stack” into one integrated unit.
Escala includes new designs for connectivity and control, providing a prototype for the user experience in development for future production models. The system features a central control module that enables the driver to execute tactile commands across the spectrum of connectivity functions, in addition to voice and gesture control technology. Inside the controller sits a new edition of Cadillac’s “flying Goddess” icon, a nod to the brand’s illustrious heritage.
Like all Cadillac models today, the interior is assembled using hand cut-and-sewn techniques. However, Escala presents several new and unique touches, blending overt luxury with covert technology. Escala makes broad use of hand-tailored fabric on the door trim and seating areas. Inspired by suiting material used by Cadillac’s partners in the fashion industry, the fabric provides a new level of hand-applied craftsmanship and color, unique in today’s auto interior landscape.
The Escala Concept utilizes Cadillac’s new RWD-centric large luxury car architecture, featuring one of the world’s most advanced body structures, which debuted on the new CT6. The mixed-material construction enables unprecedented agility and efficiency.
Escala uses a new 4.2-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, a prototype of a new system in development for future Cadillac models. The advanced engine utilizes Active Fuel Management technology, enabling fuel-saving 4-cylinder operation.

The Japanese have legends like the Supra,Evo,STI, NSX and more. The Europeans have the Italian supercars like the Lamborghini Huracan,Ferrari 488 GTB, and much more. However, in the American corner is the brute force of legends like the Ford GT,Dodge Hellcat, Dodge Demon, and Shelby GT350R. Out of the darkness in it’s orange coat of paint is the brand new 2019 Corvette ZR1 – a car that literally melts your face off with it’s acceleration and g forces. A ‘not quite a review’ take of life with a TVR Chimaera after four years of ownership. We look at some commonly asked questions around reliability & parts availability, and guess at why a lot of owners seem to have had enough after just a few months.
Think of the MG ZS, and there is a good chance you’ll think of the performance saloon made in the noughties, which was available with a V6 engine. Well, MG has brought out a new model, although I don’t think it’s the car you’ll be expecting.
That’s because it’s now turned in to a practical, cheap, family SUV, but is it a car worth having? I tested it recently to find out.
The model tested here is the mid-range ‘Excite’ trim level, meaning you features such as an 8″ touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, DAB radio, air conditioning, cruise control, automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights, and Bluetooth. It’s priced from £13,995, and is fitted with a naturally aspirated 1.5 litre petrol engine, which feeds power to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

It’s big, brash and billed as Ford’s answer to the performance dual-cab ute. But, does the Ford Ranger Raptor live up to its name? Paul Maric finds out.
80, 90, 100km/h…and brace! My stomach churns as we become airborne and then crash back down to earth. We’ve just cleared a jump in the all-new 2019 Ford Ranger Raptor!
What you’re looking at here is Ford’s first ever Ford Ranger Raptor and the smaller sibling of the epic left-hand-drive-only Ford F-150 Raptor.
Exclusively revealed by CarAdvice back in 2015, the Ranger Raptor has been a passion project for the Australian T6 home room. It’s here in Australia that Ford led the design and engineering work on Ranger Raptor, so the Australian DNA is well and truly embedded into every part of this vehicle.

Today we take a look at the 500 Abarth! This is a smaller car, but is a ton of fun to drive! You can opt for an automatic, but with the manual it just gives you that much more driver engagement and is very easy to drive. Storage space is somewhat limited, but is to be expected given the size. The coolest thing in my opinion was being able to remove the soft top roof!! It was a lot more fun and you could hear the exhaust just a little bit more!
